CITY OF BROCKTON PART-TIME ASSISTANT CITY SOLICTOR AVAILABLE

The City of Brockton seeks an attorney to serve as a part-time Assistant City Solicitor.  This position reports to the City Solicitor and assists in representing the City in all legal proceedings and serving as corporate counsel to the Mayor, department heads, and other city officials.  Duties include conducting legal research, advocating on behalf of the City in state and federal courts, representing the City before state boards, commissions and other state agencies, commencing and prosecuting legal actions on behalf of the City, preparing and responding to litigation pleadings and discovery, participating in labor negotiations and resolving union grievances, rendering legal opinions, advising municipal officers, departments, commissions and boards, preparing responses to public records requests, and drafting and reviewing municipal contracts.

Applicant must be a resident of Brockton or agree to take residency within one year from date of hire.  Experience in municipal law, land use, labor and employment law, or general litigation is a plus.  A minimum commitment of twenty-one (21) hours per week is required.  Position includes medical insurance and other fringe benefits.  Salary starts at $51,144.
